Artist Statement:

My current body of work is an investigation into the subtext of comic book illustration. I am stripping away the narrative and recognizable characters to allow the viewer to see the remaining subliminal impression. Context-free samples of an image are combined into an overwhelming retinal landscape, and Comics of different eras in the same piece transform the metaphoric distance of time into a literal distance.

I've appropriated elements from hundreds of comic book artists to create a new visual language.

Destroying the comic book?

As this investigation progressed what became important was preserving the original artists’ lines, following their hand with my hand. I’m not trying to deface, I’m seeking to elevate, rarify, and highlight the works of hundreds of other artists grafting them together within this body of work.
